Červená Lhota Castle and Jindřichův Hradec

Červená Lhota Castle (Red Lhota Castle) is located in Southern Bohemia, approximately 20 kilometers from Jindrichuv Hradec. It stands at the middle of a lake on a rocky island and it is connected to the land by a stone bridge. Červená Lhota Castle is one of the most frequented castles in the Czech Republic, its romantic red appearance is attractive for tourists from the whole world.

First mention of Cervena Lhota is from the year 1465. Between the years 1542 – 1555, original Gothic fortress was rebuilt to a Renaissance mansion, and in the second half of the 17th century there were some early baroque modifications done and at the same time, Italian artists decorated the interiors. In the 19th century the castle was rebuilt into Neo-Gothic style.

There is also a castle park, which is appreciated by botanists and conservationists. At the present time, Červená Lhota Castle is a National Monument.

The complex of buildings forming the state castle and chateau of Jindřichův Hradec is the third largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. Spread out on over 3 hectares of land, the Castle has 320 rooms, for which the Management of the state castle and Chateau of Jindřichův Hradec holds over 500 keyes. Its interiors contain about 10.000 fine art items and approximately the same number of books. From an architectural perspective, the Castle was first built in the Gothic style, becoming one of the most prestigious buildings of its kind. Quite unique, in the architectural sense, is also the Castle s largest Renaissance structure, known as the Adam Building, with partly preserved original interior elements in the Renaissance style.

After the castle visit you will be taken to the local museum where you will admire the world´s largest moving scene of the Nativity, registered in the Guiness Book of Records.
